Two medical students have used their expertise to de-mystify the beauty products used by millions of women every day.

BeautyByTheGeeks.com is the brainchild of Medical Science students Brigitte West, 21, and Rose Brown, 20.
They have set out to tackle the science behind our favourite beauty products.
Their website, which had 10,000 hits in its first 10 days, tells the reader what the ingredients in the products actually do in a way that is easy to understand.
The two girls have just finished their second year at Newcastle University, where Rose is studying Microbiology and Brigitte reads Biomedical Science.
The idea came to them walking into university one day.
Rose said: “We were talking about what products we could use to dye Brigitte’s hair and realised we had no idea what was in the dyes.
“We decided to look into the science behind it and what ingredients were used.”
They thought that many girls would be interested to see what exactly they were putting on their skin.
Brigitte said: “There is so much science out there that is just not explained and it’s a whole load of really big long words.
“We’re just breaking down the words, for example microcrystals are in most shampoos and all that means is small crystals and if you knew that you’d know what you were putting on your hair.”
The pair now hope to set up courses to help people learn how to make their own products.
Despite both having summer placements for their degrees they will also be appearing at a number of science, blogging and beauty events.
